The 21st century has called for the development of new technologies for car-makers to gear up their development of automated cars, Mitsubishi a Japanese tech conglomerate is taking a rather unusual approach: the group’s electronic division Mitsubishi Electric Corp. is planning to readjust defense technology for use in driver-less cars.
They are adapting technologies it originally developed for military use to help self-driving cars detect obstacles and avoid collisions. Katsumi Adachi, Senior Chief Engineer at Mitsubishi’s automotive division said "All we have to do is to put together the components that we already have," Adachi said in Ako city, about 375 miles (600 kilometers) west of Tokyo, where Mitsubishi maintains a testing facility for automated cars. "None of our competitors have such a wide array of capabilities."
